We live in a very connected time.

For most, long past are the days of being on a weekend sabbatical without a phone ringing, or email pinging. But being disconnected for a time is key to overall health; mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Consistently setting yourself apart from everything and everybody in order to be alone with God is imperative because He makes no bones about it. God clearly says in concise words that He is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14). He created you for His Purpose, which includes a time of undivided communion, Spirit to spirit, with Him.
In today’s society, too many believers are spending more time referencing the whereabouts and what-abouts of other people, things, places, and faces more than they are seeking God and His Presence via His Holy Word. If not careful, these people, things, places, and faces will consume more of your waking thoughts than your Creator God. Sadly, put into words, people and things may become idols in your life, making you an idolater.
Thankfully, Jesus made a way for us to repent of whatever we lust after more than God. If it is perishable, and everything on this earth is, and gets more of your time and attention than God, may I suggest that you begin to fast the person(s), and/or thing(s). Simply put, if your interest for something else makes God seem boring and tiresome, you must give the things up for a time. Only you can define, via the Spirit, what your fast looks like and how long it lasts. The harder it is to wean yourself from the desired object only denotes how big this ‘golden calf’ is in your life (Exodus 32). If your phone is your idol, begin by denying your flesh by limiting access beyond business purposes to less than 10 minutes on the hour. Make a conscious decision to give equal time, if not more, to offering your deepest, undivided attention to the only One Who truly matters: Father God. Observe what happens when you begin to consciously tune in to His Presence. Your visual and spiritual clarity will sharpen. You will develop a keen awareness that the enemy will tempt you with a million and one distractions. Deny him. Barring imminent danger, all will wait. As your spirit zooms in to telescopic focus on the Holy Spirit, your purpose will become clearer. Remember this, and never forget, God truly is a jealous God. You can take Him at His Word. Ultimately, playing God as a second-fiddle will cost your spiritual health more than you will ever afford to, or be willing to pay.
